    Dewalt 735 Planner Issue

Good afternoon ! My son in law’s Dewalt 735 planner auto column lock seems to be not holding completely and will move slightly while planning. I also have this planner and have never had this issue. From what we can see it doesn’t look like there is an adjustment for this. We did check the blades and they seems to still be sharp. Has anyone had this issue or have any thoughts on how to adjust / fix this issue ?

Dad ran a slightly wedge shaped piece of material into his, small end first, and it jammed . . . hard. Following this the height would change depending on depth of cut and I assume the associated difference in pressure to feed / cut the material. At any rate it was never reliable which in a planer makes it pretty worthless.

There are adjustment rings at each post. One of his had been forced out of position. You have to be careful not to get the posts out of sync but, this was not too tough. The top of the machine and a few other parts have to come off to allow access.

In his case the external-tooth star washer had to have a couple of tabs bent out of the lock position to allow the adjustment to be re-tightened to remove the slop. Don't get it too tight. Then different tabs were bent into the lock position and the whole thing gets reassembled. It took almost as long to write this as it did to do the fix ;-)
