    Reason 2: dust
    Reason 3: you better get really good and fast at sharpening your tools.
    Reason 4: please make a video of trying to flatten it.

    I used it for a garden bench once - never using it again.
    Stand for something, or you'll fall for anything.

    My last order of S3S hard maple was significantly cheaper than that, and maple is certainly tried and true.

    Thanks everyone...not going to use ipe! Im most worried about stability and it gluing together properly. I didnt realize I wasn't calculating my footage needs properly. The local hardwood place also has 80% heart face cherry cheaper than nearly anything in the store, $3.25 a bf. For about $250 I will have quite a nice bench.

    I could also get 2" thick beech for $5 a bf. That might be a lot less gluing to do.
