    Hmmm ... does this help?
Maybe one more bench plane for shooting end grain?
sounds like you must have a block plane or two already?
    what about shoulder planes?
    Scrub plane?
A Beater plane or two for trimming old doors or using on reclaimed wood?
And what about wooden bench planes?
I'm pretty sure 3 planes are not enough. That just doesn’t sound right. Yeah, I am pretty sure that number is too low. Way too low.

Joe, I was only referring to my experience and plane needs for squaring up a piece of stock. As far as dimensioning nicely grained lumber, I’m afraid I need not any other planes. I may be sad, but not without a few indulgences. For crazy grain, I have a 62 honed to 50 degrees that works wonders. And yes, to the LOML’s chagrin, I have a pretty wide assortment of block planes, router planes, shoulder plane, shooting plane, chamfer plane, etc., etc.
