Entering a juried show

Hello, A local Woodworking Guild is having an exhibit that will require photos to be juried for entry.
I have submitted 3 items which is the limit.

1: This is a a Walnut log section that has been made into a bench with Tiger Maple legs. The trestle is solid walnut. There are no mechanical fasteners as all pieces were cut to size and assembled with pegs. 48 x 14 x 19

2: This is a Walnut Bench with a Birdseye Maple seat. The seat has a musical note inlaid into it. The musical note is structurally stabilizing a natural crack Similar to a butterfly and it adds a decorative feature. 24 x 13.5 x 19 high

3: This is a nested set of Maple Burl Bowls 16 x 6.

I like the bench. The musical note serving as a Dutchman is a great feature. The other photos aren't showing up. Just dead links.

I think getting in to juried shows is as much about the photography as about the woodworking. Your pieces look great, but you could be helped by improved photos. (Your photos are quite good by the standards of internet forums!) In particular the wrinkled backdrop in the bench pictures and the visible "horizon line" in the bowl picture is distracting. The lighting in all of them seems off, with detail lost in the shadows and the objects not really "popping" with the multiple overlapping light sources.

I'm terrible at photography, so can't really tell you what to do differently. John Lucas does an online remote demo on photography and lighting for taking pictures of artwork that is extremely good. If you're going to be trying for high end shows it may well be worthwhile to hire a pro with a good studio setup for some real beauty shots of your work.

Thanks for the comments. I have learned that good photos are the name of the game. My background is a sheet hung from a 2x4 between a shelf and a ladder and shot with an iPad. I am aware shop lighting isn’t the best. The two benches were finished on Wednesday the day the photos were due. I think daylight in the shop may have helped with lighting.
