If it is grouped it can sometimes not fill correctly. And are you sure there isn't a hidden layer.

Thanks John I went back and ungrouped all then smartfilled and it worked this time. Have to add that one to my notes

I've got a folder were I keep all the tips I get here on the forum. But even then when I go back sometimes they don't work again.
