Aligators coping with icy weather

Not just the alligators, but sea turtles also. Saw on news a rescue operation that had HUNDREDS inside warming up, before release back into the ocean.

Yes it has. Alligators are a very ancient species. Turtles go back a long way too.

Turtles are older then the dinosaurs. have not changed much in the last 250 million years. Unlike computer programs that update to become worse every few years just so you have to buy the new improved version.

I remember a cold snap that hit South Florida in the late 1970's. Actually saw snow flurries in Miami That January. Killed back lots of palmetto tops, didn't affect some other Palms. Some plants, like Sea Grapes didn't seem to be affected at all. Hopes that the frost had killed back some released exotics (mostly snakes and lizards) proved wrong. Some populations were cut back a little but they came back strong. IN Maryland, a large South American rodent, called a Nutria was released a century ago. They live in the salt and brackish marshes and are devastating to dikes and damns with the giant burrows they dig. When temps drop to zero for a week or so the population of Nutria suffer a die back from frost bite, but there are always enough survivors to repopulate. Gators and turtles will do the same. Some scientists say we are coming out of a world wide mini ice age and the earth's warming is inevitable. As a result some animals may become extinct. Happened before and will happen again. I am in favor of cutting pollution, but don't think we can make a difference in the climate change that is happening anyway. Animals have ways of adapting and coping. If they don't, the only place they will live is in zoo's like the black footed ferret.
