Converting Supermax drum to velcro wraps.

Those who have converted their Supermax or like to velcro wraps. What has been your experience? Is it worth doing?

I'm curious if that soft mount from the layer of velcro changes accuracy. And what the endurance is on the hooks.

There is a long discussion of this very topic at the above link.

From my experience, it basically allows you to use the machine more aggressively, because the cushion keeps the sandpaper cooler, while sacrificing some accuracy, i.e. edges being slightly rounded from the cushion.

I was able to run 220 grit Abranet fairly aggressively without any clogging or overheating. You'd never be able to do that without velcro.

All in all, it depends how you want to use your machine.

Thanks. I had a homemade drum sander before and it worked well with the velcro. It was easier to install wraps with than the clips.
