    My process:

    * Clean the steel with lacquer thinner. Wait for it to completely dry.

    * Spray a few light coats of CRC dry moly lube until the color is a consistent gray.

    * Wait for it to dry (at least a few hours)

    * Run job on my laser. 60w co2 laser at 50% power, 50mm/s, 0.05mm stepover

Any idea why this is coming out so janky looking? I really don't want to spent a fortune on cermark if I can avoid it.

Ultimately, it comes down to using a product for something that it wasn't designed for. You'll get much better and more consistent results with the proper product for the job.

Cermark sales has a $10 2 oz spray sample of the new Ultra. I'd hazard to guess you spent more on the lubricant than that.
Try it. Or spend $90 or so on a small bottle of 6000 and paint a few hundred cups. Cermark isn't expensive if you don't waste it. And it works... Moly LUBE is not the same.

Cermark costs about half as much to use per dollar made as the vig Paypal and the CC company's charge to collect that dollar...
