    Paint Sprayer Recommendatoin

OK, I likely will spray shellac over studs, joists, and subfloor to seal smoke odor. What is the recommendation for an inexpensive sprayer? Airless, HPLV, LPHV ?? Obviously, this is not a detail precision type of application - just need to get it on, likely 2 coats, not worrying on looks. Maybe the job for an HF sprayer?

Do you plan on keeping the sprayer after the shellac is on?

If you do I'd get a turbine sprayer like the one from Rockler. Not too expensive but you can use it for other spray jobs in the future. If you get a turbine sprayer you don't worry about the size of your compressor or water in the air. Better than airless IMO too, not as much over spray.

I bought a cheap Wagner unit when I built my cabin. Sprayed shellac on the knotty pine to give it some color under the waterborne poly. Worked good for the first couple rooms then I found out it wasn't made for shellac and the gun was ruined. So next time I'll get something with a metal gun that will handle anything I wish to spray.

    George,

Thanks for the youtube video. I've never used lacquer like he promotes but will definitely give it a try on a piece of furniture. Meanwhile, his application is "too good" for my intended shellac application on framing.

Thanks, Jerry. May just toss the sprayer as this is a rough application - not too worried on using the gun again for finish application as I can address that later (buy the appropriate gun for finishing).

PM me your address, and I'll send you one. It's a self-contained Wagner HVLP. I bought it to spray a porch ceiling when I was away from home once, and will never use it again. I don't even know if it still works, but expect that it should. I'll send it to you, and whether it's good, or not, just toss it one way, or the other.
