    Cabinet Build Series

    https://sawmillcreek.org/showthread....ion&highlight=

Awhile back I posted this thread and decided to go with the redwood burl. I though I would bring y'all along so enjoy the pictures of this cabinet build!

The rough cad drawing. Basically 3 drawers over a cabinet with 2 doors. It’s about counter height, 45” long and 16” deep. The goal was to have lots of storage in a universal cabinet that could be used anywhere: dining room, hallway, behind the couch, etc. The burl will be veneered for the four panels.

Laying up cherry veneer. I veneer my own plywood to give me flexibility.

More veneering and flattening the burl. The finished cherry veneer with tight joints in the veneer flitches from my router jointing jig.

First stage glue up on the inner carcass. Now we’re caught up to where I’m at.

Nice work Bryan - I look forward to the rest of the build. I like the rail detail on the side panels.

What a fantastic piece of burl. Can't wait to see it finished in the cabinet.

Very nice work, I also really like the detail in the rails. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. What part of the state do you live in??

Dados and notch cut to accept the upper case of the two drawers. The overhang matches the 3/4” thick rails.

Dry assembly and final assembly. The entire side had to be glued on in one glue up. 12 loose tenon joints a dado and notch per side.

Got a bit of catch-up to do. I’ve been busy at work so here goes a few more pictures.

Adding edging to 7/8” plywood I made in the vacuum press by adding 1/8 Baltic birch to 3/4”.

I used some 1/16” veneer I had in inventory for the very top for durability then standard thickness for the bottom. Unfortunately when pressing the veneer it tore the tape leaving a small gap to fill. This was the first time I used thich veneer in that way. Maybe next time I’ll resaw 1/8” then edge glue before pressing to plywood. 1/16” is too thin to edge glue first. I then planed an under bevel. The miters turned out great.

I live 30 miles west and a bit north of Fargo. I see you’re about 2 hours away from me.

Looks like I’m on part 7 of the build. I got the top attached. This construction is different as the top is part of the structure and was glued and screwed. The upper drawer carcass was dominoed and glued to the top.

    Now on to the drawers!

Not too bad except for the pice that chipped. I’m still learning and need more practice.

    Sliding dovetail for the back.

    All glued up.
