Has anyone upgraded their Delta AP400 single stage dust collector to a HEPA or ???

I have Delta AP400 which is not ideal - I know, but I'd like to give my lungs a better break.
For budgetary reasons, I'd prefer to upgrade the filter (loose the upper bag) and install a cartridge filter in place. My flange is 13" in diameter.
Has anyone done this? Which filter did you buy? It looks to me that the Donaldson filters are the closest to fit the inside diameter, and I'll have to build a flange to carry the exterior of the filter.

Yes! I don't have that Delta. Mine is the now-retired 50-850, 1.5 HP rated at 1100 com once upon a time. It came with a 30 micron bag! Hard to believe that I used that thing for years. First I bought Jet air cleaner, but the bag was still the "wrong tool for the job."

So early last year I did what you're thinking about, and what a difference. It's a new world in my shop.

I went with a 35 series NANO MERV-15 filter from Wynn Environmental. I thought I was going to help you out, but I just looked and Wynn seems light on 13" diameter filters. My blower cyclone is about an inch larger than most 1.5 to 2 HP machines at 19".

So I'm no help. Looks like you've been looking around. I hope the one you found works out.

There is always the option of the Harbor Freight conversion to think about. A complete system around that one would run you about $700, plus another $300 for the air filter. But it may be more capacity than you need.

Keep looking, though. Get that dust out of the air. Good luck.

Consider adding a cyclone to your system. It will save a lot of time cleaning the pleated filter, which is a LOT more work than giving a bag a shake. You get more airflow without the cyclone, for the first few minutes after cleaning the filter, but that filter will clog way quicker without a cyclone.

A good source for filters is Air Cleaning Specialists, Chris Peanick is the sales rep.

Oneida sells filters that are actually HEPA.

Wow! Thanks for all the replies! I thought I was alone in this toss and replace world.
I've got a few inquiries to various manufacturers and let's see how cost-effective the upgrade might be.

I no longer have an AP 400 but I got rid of it after I moved. I used it piped up with 4 inch s&d piping to several tools. It did not flow enough air to get the chips from my jointer. Worked OK on my BT3100 table saw but so did a shop vac. But I put a Wynn filter on it. Wasn't hard. There is a youtube about putting a super dust deputy on a HF 2hp (which I currently use) where they used a different filter that was significantly cheaper when I checked prices. But the Wynn filter is good.

I run a Thien babble in conjunction with my AP 400 We use it once a year to collect shavings from drill press drilling window holes in Toys for Tot's car bodies. One thing I did is add a pieces of flashing to the inside of the chamber between the bags. A Phil Thien baffle could also be built in there. When the run capacitor pukes, you can remotely locate replacement capacitor.

Hi everyone. I realize this is an old thread, but was wondering if anyone has an alternative filter canister for the Delta AP400 dust collector. The part 50-740 is no longer available (as noted above). I should have upgraded it long ago, but finally deciding to now that it is discontinued . My dust collector works fine, so I don't really want to replace it, and I'm not opposed to DIY approaches if it gets the job done. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
