Question Draw Leaf or Dutch Pull out Table Plan

    Dust Eaters and Others,
I would very much like a lead on plans for a Draw Leaf Table. I am willing to pay for detailed plans so long as they include dimensions for the tapered lifting mechanism. I have the plans for the WoodSmith (?) Gaming Table, which, while good, leaves much to the imagination. I also have the great SketchUp drawing, but that is all it is. Looking for detailed "how to build" plans.
    Thanks for any help

    Ed

Tag Frid, one of the great master teachers of woodworking, wrote a three-volume book series about woodworking. In the third book, titled "Book 3: Furnituremaking", there is a chapter about what he calls a "Dutch Pullout". It sounds that it is what you're looking for. There's detailed plans about how to make the tapered lifting mechanism. The book was published in 1985 by Taunton Press. It has been sold as part of a three-book set, or as a single book. The specific chapter on this table might be available electronically somewhere on the Taunton Press web site.

Thanks Jamie. Should be a great source, unfortunately Tage Frid's books are $80-120!!! If nothing else comes along I will make the mechanism for the Gaming Table plan with scrape wood and then scale it up for my table.

Yikes! I bought Frid's books back when they were new, and they've been a major education for me. They weren't that expensive back then. They may be out of print now, so the price goes up.

There's an article by Frid in the Winter, 1977 issue of FWW, in which he describes a "Dutch pull-out" dining table. That might contain at least some of what's in the book.

A couple of other links Ed might find useful:

You might try your local public library system for Frid's books. Ones around here have a big network, so if one doesn't have the book you want, they can borrow it from another that does.
