    Jet Arbor Saw Dust Collection

    Hello,
I recently acquired a Jet 3 HP arbor saw that hopefully will last for many years to come. While looking at the back of the saw, I noticed vent openings on the hinged motor cover. Do these openings accomplish anything other than to weaken the vacuum strength within the saw cabinet? I was trying to understand the benefit of this secondary airflow to the vacuum port. Thanks!

Does anybody know how to rotate photos?

    Steve

I would think that, if the louvers are in the motor cover, they would be there to ensure airflow over the motor for cooling. The secondary airflow through the cabinet may be designed to move dust away from the motor as well.
