    Fuming results

I just finished a Taboret and for the first time used only fuming to enhance the wood color. Usually I use a variant on the Homestead Finishing Mission Finish recipe but wanted to see how just plain ammonia would work out. The colder weather seemed to slow things down a bit and it took two 24 hour sessions to get me where I wanted to be. Following the fuming I applied natural Danish oil and padded on Garnet shellac. Paste wax rubbed in with 0000 Steel wool finished it off. It's not as red as previous pieces but still turned out nice to my eye.

Another great piece Rob. Really like the color - your finishing is top notch. What brand of paste wax do you use?

Thanks Bill. It’s just S. C. Johnson in the yellow can. I actually prefer it to Briwax.

The industrial grade stuff from the Blueprint shop. It's a bit spendy but it doesn't take much. I think I used about 6 fluid ounces for this. I poured in in a butter tub and slid it under the tabouret before dropping a 36 x 36 x 48H box over the top.
