    Rejuvinating The Companionway

Initially I was thinking of making some new washboards out of tigerwood (goncalo alves) but I decided to see if I could bring the old washboards back to life. The top piece was too far gone so that would be made new.

    This is how it started

First step was replacing the top piece. It started with cumaru and we tried adding the Aloha insignia to it. The cumaru piece is just sitting in front of the old.

Neither of us liked the insignia because it wasn't in proportion to the original. On the next try I used tigerwood and it came out better. But first I had to strip and repair the washboards.

I used an RO sander to clean up the flat surfaces then followed up with anything I could find in the workshop to clean up the rest.

I took a piece of cumaru and graved it in to fill the broken louver.

It should darken enough to blend in well enough with the teak.

I thought about trying to bring back the rest of the louvers but... nah.

    Hi Julie,
There are no photos. I’m curious to see how it turned out so could you make another attempt?
BTW, your diaper tag line is one of my absolute favourites!

David, the pictures were all taken from an album I created here and downloaded to the forum. They are supposed to be publicly viewable. I don't know why they can't be seen by everyone else. They appear from my view.

Julie, love seeing your work. Afraid I can’t see the photos either.

I have a question posted in Forum Tech Support as to why the photos aren't appearing. Maybe they need to be approved by a moderator?

I can see the photos. What method did you use to put the photos from the album into the message? I don't use the Insert Image icon. I click on the photo in the album and copy the BB Code in the lower right corner and paste it directly into the message. Do you do the same?

This is one of my photos done that way. Can those who can't see your photos see this one?

Also, for those who can't see the photos in your message can they see the photos in your album?

    Let's try that...

    Here's the original companionway condition

This is the 1st stab with cumaru and the Aloha insignia just sitting in front of the original

    Any luck?

I see both of the new photos...how are you actually adding them to your posts, Julie? Are you using the image button and then either uploading or linking to them or what?
