brushless drill

I have a Hitachi brushless drill that's starting to smell hot when I use it. I've read to blow it out with compressed air which I've done and also to spray WD-40 in the vent holes and take it outside and run it forward and backward to burn off the WD-40. I haven't done that. What would you suggest? Thanks.

WD-40 can turn to gel over time and I do not use it as a long term lubricant. There may be other more suitable oils BUT, what does Hitachi say about it?

I don't think I'd do the WD40 thing. Seems to me it just asking to leave sticky residue that will cause dust to build up faster. If blowing it out with CA doesn't help, I'd carefully disassemble to do a thorough cleaning and check of the bearings.

I guess I'm old school and never owned a brushless drill before. I assumed it was the brushes but maybe not?

Being a brushless drill, it doesn't have brushes
