I am setting up my Jet belt sander (6x48) to sharpen lathe tools. What is a recommendation for grit and type of belt to use for sharpening. I know that there are metal grinding belts available but what other types can also be used to do wood?

I use 120 as a general sharpening grit on the sorby proedge. Ceramic seems to be the only thing that holds up to high speed steel. 60 is good for shaping. You have to be careful not to burn the steel!

Do ceramic belts cut wood well?
