Eagle 30 Gal . Salvage Drums

I've used in the past the 1602 Eagle Salvage Drum on a cyclone with good results . 30 gal. is all I want to deal with at once . It has a metal clamping ring that seals well . Eagle also has the 1601 Overpack Drum , which is 2 lbs. lighter , and has a plastic clamping ring . Has anybody tried a dust barrel w/ a plastic ring like this , how did it seal ? Any opinions out there ? It's $25 less than the heavier " Salvage Drum " .

For those that don’t know what the OP is talking about, here’s a link:

I got a $20 55 gallon metal drum from Rural King, and a lid and lock ring from McMaster. It’s heavy and hard to empty, but I’m looking into a bagged system with a liner which should help. The ones you mention get good reviews, seems like a good choice.

I've been using a 30 gallon standard HDPE barrel for several years - it has a plastic lid and a plastic metal clamping ring. No problems at all with the seal.

I think they both have a metal lock ring. The plastic lid may need a plywood doughnut attached to prevent warping. I would try it as is and add a doughnut if needed.

Did you ever figure out the real difference?

The 1601MB, at least on Amazon, has a metal ring and looks identical other than the color. It's $45 shipped vs $65 shipped for the yellow.
    https://www.amazon.com/Eagle-1601MB-...6277119&sr=8-1

Looking at a different website, they have the 1602 and 1601MB have the same weight:
    https://store.interstateproducts.com...ever-Lock_Ring
    https://store.interstateproducts.com...ck_Ring_-_Blue

Based on that, maybe the "regular" 1601 is lighter and crappier with the plastic ring, but the 1601MB seems to be identical to the 1602 to me.

I did get the standard 1601 w/ plastic ring , its yellow . 1601M has a metal ring , 1601MB is the same as 1601M - just blue . My 1601 is indeed a bit lighter , and its seals well and does not collapse at all in use .
