Walnut crib for my first kiddo

I’ve seen a couple of these come up lately, so I figured I would post mine. My first child is due in November, I decided to build a crib as a fun way to tell my family the big news. It’s built out of a single piece of 12/4 black walnut, with quite mild figure and gorgeous color. I designed it on sketch up first to figure out all the proportions and ensure it meets the official safety standards. It’s all mortise and tenon joinery, the sides come off the front and back for moving. The slats are hard maple between two stretchers of walnut, these are mounted to the front and back with a series of holes threaded for 1/4-20 bolts to give multiple height positions. The finish is Rubio monocoat, because I figure it might get chewed on a bit... enjoy

Congratulations on your first born! Mine was almost 50 years ago. Seems like yesterday.
    Beautiful job on the crib!

Very nice project but let's not let the word get around that you completed over a month ahead of the due date. Thanks for sharing.
Rustic? Well, no. That was not my intention!

Nice job on the crib. I built one out of pine in the mid-80s for my now 35 year-old daughter. We had a one-car detached "garage" sheathed with rough cut planks and you could see a fair bit of the neighborhood through the gaps in the planks. Spent a good part of the winter on it and finished it in March in time for her first birthday.
    Regards,

    Kris
