    Shop Space Renovation

As the summer has gone by and I've been spending more time at my house in Upstate NY I've embarked on renovating the 180 sq ft shop space, formerly what I believe was an incredibly small garage. The previous owners had attempted something similar however the results left much to be desired so demolition was unfortunately part of the project. Documented history of progress since June 2020 below

    Crap-tacular interior by previous owner

Some real swell carpentry! Someone was drunk when they installed this wall.

    Interior walls demoed.

New interior insulation, drywall, paneling, electrical. Also new framing enclosing the utility room to left off-camera.

    New exterior door gluing up

    Door ready for glazing!

    North-side wall paneling complete.

East side exterior wall demoed. Sorta stressful to get the space closed in one day.

Door install complete, existing tiles removed.

    Stucco brown coat on.

Final stucco coat and glazing done!

West wall and new utility room enclosure completed.

East exterior wall completed, south-side wall demoed.

Floor demoed and somewhat repaired. There was a lot of the first 1/4" of concrete that had just totally separated from the original slab.

Ceiling taped, painted and wired for new lighting. EP Henry floor leveller poured. Amazing stuff.

    Door hardware installed.

First courses of tiling. Went with a wood look ceramic tile.

    Floor tiling done!

Grouting done, for some reason it was a super headache removing the haze.

I'll update this thread as things progress.

That’s a great looking space. I really like your new door! What did you make it out of?

You've turned that into a warm and inviting place!!! Good decision to tackle the demolition and make the "bones" work better, too.

Beautiful job. Good luck working in it.

    That pre-existing wall was unbelievable.

Thanks! It's just Eastern White Pine, finished with Sikkens Cetol. Three foot eaves on this place so the door rarely ever sees any weather.

Thanks. You should've seen the "creative" electrical this place came with...

Thanks Peter! You did a very nice job with it. I’m pretty familiar with Cetol. It makes the pine look like something much more exotic in your door.
You are wise to keep it out of the weather though as it’s a pain when it starts to lift. FWIW, I use some on my boats teak trim and found that a coat of Cetol Gloss every year really helps the Cetol hold up and doesn’t add any more colour to the wood.
Enjoy your great looking new space!

Thanks again. It's been some long weekends and days off here and there since about mid-June. The wife and I have been hiding out at the house Upstate so much less time spent commuting back and forth from NYC. Still need to finish up with trimming out the space, finishing the walls, two new interior doors and some storage solutions for tools, supplies etc. As above, I'll update this thread as I progress.

Thanks! The room may become some sort of home office or third bedroom once I figure out a separate building on the property. Couple updates below:

New bathroom door, still needs to be trimmed out.

New bathroom door and utility room doors rescued from upstairs closet opening.
