I have. No, really, I kissed it.
Just returned from Klingspor where all the stock is S2S. and spent a delightful 20 minutes getting the edges smooth and square to a face of a nice piece of Sapele.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be
The jack plane, a beautiful tool. Will take care of 90% of your planing needs.
I never kiss and tell but, . . . since it's you guys . . . yesterday.

Sargent No. 3416 Jack plane.....seems to do just fine....
Maybe it's a Jill plane.
I have one in a display case in my office. It is too special to use. Plus I have a full collection of Bedrock planes with Veritas irons and breakers that I use.
Well....when a 100+ year old Sargent #414c can still do this, WITH the original iron and chipbreaker..

Why would I bother to add expensive, aftermarket stuff....that usually won't quite fit the plane...
Of course, seems all my planes can do the see through schtick..

From a 1907 Sargent #408c/5408c....up to a No. 8, type 7 Stanley..

Might be in HOW the irons are sharpened, and then set up to work.....more than what brand name is on them....
Signs around our office say “stay 5 LA Jacks apart”....should post a picture of that...
