I was just introduced to a gentleman near me, almost a neighbor, with a large quantity of pau marfim, also known as guatambu. Does anyone have experience in turning it?

My books say it is hard, dense, and fine grained, excellent for woodturning. The gentleman said it's about like turning ebony, except white. One book says it's a good substitute for boxwood so it may take threading well. I'm anxious to try it out, especially since I've turned almost nothing since March!
