    Two bedside tables

These red oak tables match the king bed I posted a few weeks ago.

They are finished. I used Waterlox thinned with mineral spirits, wiped on four coats and one coat of wax.

I like those. How did you attach the tops and shelves?

Nicely done. Sharp, tidy chamfer at the top.

    Kudos

I wrestled with that and decided on dowels because the design makes tenons impossible. I am not a fan of dowels. I have seen to many failures. I finally used pocket screws and glue. I am no fan of those either but it saved some hours. This is the clients design. I worried about warping so I added cleats underneath the top and shelf. They are glued in the middle and have slotted screws on the outer ends to allow for wood movement.

Charlie, I like the two tables, sort of unique. My 80 year old rock maple has pocket hole joinery and is strong as ever. I picked up a Kreg jig.

I used one of the cheaper Kreg jigs and put two screws in at each leg juncture. I was amazed at how well it worked. I plugged the holes and sanded them so someone running their hand under the top wouldn’t feel them.
