    Sanding shellac

After I finished an end table I noticed some raised grain in some areas. I sanded a little with 400 grit but stopped due to it leaving white dust that is not coming off fully. What is the proper procedure to finish up?
It has Pure Tung oil and MS mix cured for a month then one coat of spray on shellac.

Try wiping with a lint-free towel and a little DNA. That said, when you recoat with shellac, it will all melt together as one layer so I would expect what you are seeing to disappear.

I didn't think it was ok to put shellac over oil based finish.

Works best if o-b finish has cured. But oil and shellac are used together in grain filling and polishing applications.

The oil can weep back up through a layer of shellac. DAMHIKT

It’s a really good way to finish.
My shop has air conditioning and a dehumidifier both but I moved it upstairs for most of the curing.
The Tung oil is mixed with mineral spirits which dries faster but I still waited a month before spraying on the shellac.
To prevent any wicking up you just wipe it every now and then but also just one coat of Tung mixture and wipe off within 3 minutes. Most of the African Mahogany species soaks it in really fast so no need for flooding it.

Shellac can go over almost anything. It's often used as a barrier coat for that reason...over oil before using a waterborne finish, for example.

Just realized that 600 grit will get the nubs off and not leave any white particles. Just blow off with air hose and wipe with a tack cloth.
