Creeker's Past Week's Accomplishments

Greetings,
I'm now off oncall duty and I can relax a bit. No real time in the shop this past week but I did some yard work, grass cutting, weed pulling, harvest from the garden and spend time with family when I can. Maybe this week, I can get caught up on sleep and rest and get a few things in the shop done that I need to get finished. I don't know about you, but seems like I keep getting further and further behind. Oh well, maybe I'll finish a thing or two this week so I can start new projects come fall. I'm ready for the summer heat and humidity to be over in my shop space.

Dennis -- get some rest now that you're off on call. Like you, not much shop time recently, and what time I've had has been devoted to a major shop layout overhaul. So....no actual woodworking projects for me. We're still hitting it hard at our son's both Saturday and Sunday trying to get his new bedroom/bath area ready so we can move the stairways to both the 2nd floor and basement. Once those are moved, we can install the radiant floor loops. When that's done, we'll call a truce for awhile. But until the heat is in, we've got a deadline.

Dennis, hoping you get get shop time soon...even with the heat!

I've been pretty much focused on my room renovation projects and as of yesterday, all the paint is done other than what will be required when I replace the rear window after the flooring is in. Speaking of that, today I get to do some actual woodworking by fabricating and scribing a narrow surround to frame the stone fireplace hearth as the new floor will be at a higher level than existing. I had to replace some of the existing flooring material due to old insect damage, but what's left is sturdy enough to be the subfloor so I don't need to rip it all out and put in a plywood deck like in the other room. While it's sad to bury some of the really old wide pine, it's necessary for safety in this case. New wide pine made to look older will go on top so it will look essentially the same when I'm done. I'm glad to be done with the walls, especially the back wall where I had to put up greenboard (which was blue due to the brand...) and do mud work, etc. SO much fun you know...

No shop time for me last week. Did a fair number of outside chores. On the office project, did sheetrock repairs and painting prep work, and got the trim mostly painted. The room has a large 4 section window with the outer two sections being operable casements. I removed the operating panes and filled the holes with rigid foam so I could paint everything without any problems with stuff sticking together. While at it, I replaced the crank operators. They were still functional, but nearing end of life, so as long as I was disassembling the window it made sense to replace them, and I had them in "stock" since last time I bought some I got extras. Still have to paint the insides of the two interior french doors and the walls.
