Thread: The Butterfly Table

    The Butterfly Table

I made this table as a birthday gift for my sister. Walnut slab top with lots of hard maple butterflies / dovetail keys. Finished with danish oil, shellac, and thinned arm-r-seal mid-satin. I was on a time crunch so I just purchased premade hairpin legs, but I like the look of them.

Really cool table. Lots of metal legs being used on tables these days.

The butterflies really play well with the sapwood. I’m curious as to the stability of the sapwood. I have a number of large live edge walnut crotch wood slabs like you used. It’s been air dried (by me) for about 14 years. The sapwood is pretty punky and breaks right off the heartwood for the most part.
