    Try spraying water on the board before planing. I would try on a scrap first.

    I have used Zinser 1 pound "cut" diluted with the same volume of Denatured alcohol.

    It was effective in dealing with small "pin" knots it local yellow pine. I haven't tried other dilutions or wood species.

    Just makes a mess....
    Ok..had a pine glue up panel that needed to be flat and smooth....drawers will be sliding on it...

    That glue line would cause drawers to hang up...didn't need any water...or any other messy stuff....just Stanley No. 4, Type 10...
