    Mahogany End Table

This is built with some of the replaned mahogany from my old entertainment center.
Dovetailed 3/4 Poplar drawer with 1/2 poplar drawer bottom.
Ball bearing slides with stops to prevent it from closing into a hard detent.
Lower shelf is thicker because I can't bring myself to plane down wood for no reason.
One coat of 1/2 pure tung oil and 1/2 odorless mineral spirits.

Nice little table. Great re-use of material. A perfect fit.

Small tables are great projects and there is always a need for one.

Bruce, well done. I, too, hesitate to plane away good wood when not needed. And especially mahogany. The way it looks, the way it feels, the way it smells, the way it planes...mahogany is beautiful.

Great looking table. I am a big fan of hickory in terms of how it looks. Working it is a different matter. But for unique beauty and durability it is hard to beat. Nice job and congratulations on a fine build.

After a spray coat of shellac. Couldn’t take the Tung oil smell anymore.
Its African mahogany, two different tones, I sent off these two and another piece I had to the lab in WI. Hope to get results by early September. They will probably just say Khaya which is fine since the mahogany from 70 plus years ago was much darker and not around anymore.
