Most cat litter has a fragrance and other additives that may have unwanted effects on your bowl. I'd try oil dry. It's generally all clay and makes a decent desiccant.
Sharp solves all manner of problems.
Won't that pull moisture out too quickly, leading to cracking?

It may. I have lots of experience with Desiccants but very little in drying bowls.

Apparently it works quite well.

The cheapest non-clumping cat litter has no perfumes. I bought some yesterday at the grocery store - $3 for a 20 pound bag. I use it to soak up water leaks in my basement and oil/gas spills in the driveway. I've used straight bentonite (the clay in cat litter) from the farm supply store as well, but its more expensive.
