I put a load of mostly 8/4 hard maple in my kiln 20 days ago. The drying data is shown in the chart below:




The drying rate started out right at/slightly above the maximum rate per day for 8/4 hard maple of 2.6%, but quickly dropped off and then wandered around 0.75 to 1.5%/day, depending upon the weather. Now it's starting to fall off as the % moisture gets closer to my target of 7%. The exponential curve fit to the % moisture data shows a really good fit and suggests the wood will reach 7% after 30 days, assuming the weather remains reasonably constant over the next 10 days.

Thirty days from 40% to KD for 8/4 stock seems pretty good.
