Oneway Wolverine Sharpening System 4 Piece Set

Couple of questions on this system:

It's cheaper than the Penn State Industries sharpening system, but does it do everything that the PSI sharpening system will do ? Looking for something that basically do it all. Sharpen wood chisels , Woodturning gouges, Skew chisels, 40/40 grind, round nose chisels parting and V chisels.,. Can that Oneway 4 piece set do all that without buying any extras?

If this (https://oneway.ca/products-category/...g%20(complete)) is the 4-piece set you mention, then no, it won't do everything. To sharpen bowl gouges with the classic fingernail shape, you'll also need the Vari-Grind jig (https://oneway.ca/Vari-Grind%20for%2...20dia.%20Tools). Having said that, the Wolverine system is pretty darn awesome and works quite well. I have both pieces and use them a ton. I'm quite pleased with how they work.

FWIW, Batty says that there is no jig that will allow you to achieve his (infamous) 40/40 grind. You can only get it by grinding freehand.

You would be able to achieve the 40/40 grind by using the platform and following the advise given in the Cindy drozda link

Can't remember where I saw the post, but some one, using a jig was able to get perfect 40 degree bevel all around the nose and wings of a gouge. He did use a 3 inch protrusion with the jig.

Interesting, Reed. I know that John Lucas played with the idea and posted that he has come very close using the verigrind.

Well, I googled it and found the video. I may be biased because I have been platform sharpening for so long I don't know how to use jigs any more, but it looks to be more trouble than it is worth, and the 3 inch protrusion will cause problems as the tool wears down...
