My wife had a cluttered stack of frequently used salts, peppers and seasonings by our range. I took an extended break from another project and decided this was perfect for some apple wood from our old beloved Gravenstein apple tree. When I had the wood milled I was very impressed with its color and grain but I never knew what to do with it or how it would be to work with this wood. I air-dried the wood and decided a small box would be a good test of the wood. I finished the wood with natural Danish oil so this is the natural color and grain.
I made the bottom with a metal grill so debris would fall through the bottom and she could lift up the entire box to clean.
