    Glenn, that's very true. Black walnut most often ages to a golden, honey brown that's actually pretty nice. It's one of the reasons I stopped combining walnut and cherry for "contrast" because said contrast disappears. LOL

    Sutherland and Wells polymerized tung oil works great on walnut.

    As to finish, I wipe on shellac and get quick easy coverage on a small project.

    My favorite stain is Minwax Special Walnut. Wipe on, wipe off, wait 2 days and apply topcoat.
