2nd use for old Emerson 1 1/2 HP motor??

After taking the old Sears Craftsman table saw apart, I realized the Motor is still good. Would that Motor be too fast for a Grinder ?

  2. The motor is probably the same speed as some grinders. What speed is the motor? What speed grinder do you want? For bench grinders 1725 rpm (low speed) or 3450 rpm (high speed) are common. Grinders aren't super expensive so just buying one may make more sense depending on your needs.

Additionally, speed can be adapted with pulley size if you use an arbor driven with a belt. I had a use for a buffer with big wheels and used a motor I had for that with an arbor made for buffing. I think mine was a ShopFox and I use bigger buffing wheels on it than it was actually rated for. It sees less use than I expected, but I do find it useful in my luthier work. I had planned to use more sprayed lacquer when I bought it. For that I do hand rubbed finish followed up with a power buffing.
