RD Works scanning is confusing me

I have RDworks v8.01.28 When I am in scan mode on a layer, sometimes it will do one letter at a time and sometimes it will scan the whole word at once. A lot of times it is much more efficient to do an entire word or go across multiple designs at once rather than one at a time. How doe the software choose its method of scanning? Can I set it to scan multiple designs at once, rather than one at a time? Thank you in advance, I hope this made sense.

"scanning" is new lingo for 'rastering'..

You have selected the "independent output" on the power screen. I have had it on occasion, self select in older versions of the software.
I too use 8.28 and haven't seen it happen any more. It is useful when you have several items with a lot of white space between them. Will do one item at a time.

Simply get Lightburn. Thousands of times easier and more workable than RDW.
