As you may know I've been looking for parts for my Stanley #78. I recieved my fence yesterday, so I gave it a try this morning. Here is the result on a scrap piece of poplar 3/8" x 1/4" deep. Once I scribbled paraffin on the shoe it cut like butter. 20200603_092615.jpg

Good to see you got the plane working.
A sharp blade and a little sole lube works wonders.
It helps to also wax the fence.

If you are right-handed, I promise that the second time you use that tool Jim, the exposed left end corner of the blade is going to nip your left hand, once again proving that "yes, I do know how to sharpen".
