Hi,
I was suffering from Coronavirus blues last week and decided to shut out the news, go into the shop and concentrate on a bite sized project that might put me in a Zen state.
I recalled a FWW article from years ago by Gary Rogowski that showcased a Japanese inspired box, made mostly with hand tools which I sought to replicate. All the curves were shaped by hand plane with some fairing from a combination of card scraper and sandpaper glued to a flexible piece of plexiglass.
Made from straight grained Cherry with a streak of sapwood on one edge of the lid. I made two handles, the runner-up from Ebonized oak, and the winner made from Walnut. Wanting to keep it simple, the finish is nothing more than a few coats of thinned dewaxed shellac wiped on, followed by satin wax.
Thanks for looking,
Edwin
