    A Coronavirus therapy project

    Hi,
I was suffering from Coronavirus blues last week and decided to shut out the news, go into the shop and concentrate on a bite sized project that might put me in a Zen state.

I recalled a FWW article from years ago by Gary Rogowski that showcased a Japanese inspired box, made mostly with hand tools which I sought to replicate. All the curves were shaped by hand plane with some fairing from a combination of card scraper and sandpaper glued to a flexible piece of plexiglass.

Made from straight grained Cherry with a streak of sapwood on one edge of the lid. I made two handles, the runner-up from Ebonized oak, and the winner made from Walnut. Wanting to keep it simple, the finish is nothing more than a few coats of thinned dewaxed shellac wiped on, followed by satin wax.

    Thanks for looking,

    Edwin

Edwin, that is outstanding. Beutiful lines and exceptional workmanship. I hope you accomplished your primary objective and managed to forget about all that's going on while working on it.

The clean softened lines work very well with your careful choice of grain. The thought and care you put in are evident to all.

Very nice! I think Japan when I look at it. Hope whoever gets it appreciates it, I'm sure they will.

That's really a nice looking piece Edwin! I like the curves and the joinery.
