    Slot-head screws

What is it that wooden-boat builders find so attractive about slot-head screws? Is there some advantage I'm unaware of?

Years ago, my grandfather mentioned that slotted screws were best below the water line as the slot can easily be cleared out of paint or glue when it needs to be removed. Much less easy to do this with Robertson or Phillips heads. Also, silicon bronze screws are pretty soft so you're probably better off not trying to power drive them in or out.

I've noticed Louis Sauzedde ofter uses them as well for new repairs.

I hadn't thought of that. Thank you. The world makes sense again.
