Thread: Leg Vise Question

Warren, by slanted do you just mean the racking effect when you don't use your guide or is it part of the design?

    Slanted to match the leg?

A slanted leg vise has the leg and the vise slanted maybe 15 or 20 degrees from plumb. That way when you put a board vertically in the vise, as when dovetailing or planing end grain, the parallel guide is slightly to the left of the top of the vise and the board is on the right.

A vise that is not slanted will want to close up on the left side when a vertical board is clamped on the right side. You need to put a spacer in on the left side to get it to hold the board.
