That reminds me of the old joke about the young husband who worked in a Soviet baby carriage factory. His wife tells him she is pregnant so he sneaks home one of each part his factory makes. Problem is once he has all the parts all he can assemble is a machine gun on wheels.

The big Kennecott copper mine (worlds largest open pit mine) is 11 miles from me. It was THEE main employer back in the 60's around here. Supposedly, there was a guy there working pretty much by himself, tending an ore conveyor. The story goes that he figured out that there was quite a bit of gold in the ore, and for many years he would just pick out the big pieces off the belt. No one was the wiser until the price of gold went thru the roof in the late 70's, and KCC started paying more attention to the gold since it was suddenly more profitable than the copper. About that same time the guy retired and, I guess, no one's seen him since. After he left, the net gold coming off his belt increased substantially. Supposedly he took home hundreds of pounds of gold over the years. Most of the gold he took home was worth around $50 an ounce, but was over $800 when he cashed out.

I can't find anything online about this, but it's been local lore around here for years...
