How to dispose of dust collector filters

I've searched everywhere and can't find an answer. My DC filter is about 7 years old and is shot, how do I dispose of it? It's 18" x 36", so I can't just throw it in the trash. Should it be recycled?

Around here, the garbage people will pick up oversized items a couple of times a year but you have to call them and arrange for a pickup.

But I'd take a good look at whether I could cut it up to fit in my trash.

Leave it outside and rats and cats will destroy it soon enough. maybe run a sprinkler inside it to get it soaking wet before flattening it?

soak it with water to ensure you keep the dust from spreading to your lungs then cut it up and put it in the trash.

I just put mine in a large plastic bag, and the trash collectors take it. No problem.
