Powermatic Model 24 Shaper - Kaboom!

2hp motor runs fine in forward. Switched to reverse, motor hummed and the capacitor exploded.

Any suggestions before I replace the capacitor?

Check the wiring. It's possible that the reversing switch is connecting things the wrong way when set to reverse.

Unplug it and replace the capacitors. You have to anyway.

Thanks I'll do that. I don't recall ever reversing it before so may have been that way when I bought it a few years ago.

I will thanks. I was amazed that it ran fine in forward after the capacitor blew.
