One thing to consider. We have a friend who left his air compressor switched on all the time for decades. Then one day a failure caused the compressor to run continuously. It overheated and the shop burned to the ground.
I left my compressors on in previous shops. These days I switch the power off when I leave the shop for the day and when I know I'm not going to be in the shop for a while. I mounted the disconnect switch where I can visually double-check it from across the shop when I go out the door. I know chances of failure are slim, but...
