    Glue or screws?

4E520E47-1F6B-425D-9945-37B49519996B.jpgWill my table buckle if I glue 1/4” hard board to the surface? The top is 3/4 already. Or is counter sinking a ton of screws a better approach? I already glued the frame onto the bottom.
    Thanks -

Contact cement if you don’t think you need to remove it. Screws if you think it is going to replaced often. Not sure your plan for use.

    I shouldn't buckle.

I prefer to use screws that way the hardboard can be replaced if needed (I have an applied hardwood edge).

That said, of course another layer of hardboard can always be glued on.

    Hi Steve,

I'm with Robert. I always screw hardboard to my bench tops and apply a hardwood edge. It doesn't take that many screws and makes it easy to replace. That said, I'm pretty careful with my hardboard and my latest benches are 8 years old and look brand new.

    Cheers,
    Mark

Thanks guys! I guess the safe route is the screws. I didn’t know if glue would keep the layer of HB flatter over time.
Mark, what finish if any gets you eight years of use?
