    Next: What to do....

Box projects are done. Taking a few days to "R&R"......then decide what to do with..
    Ash Lumber supplies, side view.JPG
    8 planks...4/4 x 6 x 54" on average..
    Ash Lumber supplies, wild grain.JPG
    Most have decent enough grain...
    Ash Lumber supplies, end grain.JPG
So...trying to decide what to make with these....

Maybe a Larger, Shaker style table, with a drawer, or two?

Maybe a Chimney Cupboard? Have a space beside the chimniey, about 12" x 12" square...

Maybe a "steamer trunk" ....hardware might be a challenge....

    Maybe a Lap-style Writing Desk?

Not enough boards for a Blanket Chest, or a chest of drawers....

May try the table....and see IF there is enough left over for the Lap Desk....I can use pine on the insides of the table....including the drawer(s?) sides and back....

Stay tuned...Single Brain Cell Sketch Up is now at work....

OK...Lumber. One plank was sorted out from the stack...
    Paul Sellers plans, lumber supply.JPG
Mainly for a lack of knots, live edges, no warpping...and decent grain..
    Paul Sellers plans, grain details.JPG
    Downloaded the plans
    Paul Sellers plans, 1.JPG
    Front view..
    Paul Sellers plans, 2.JPG
    End view
    Paul Sellers plans, 3.JPG
Drawer details....there is also a cutting list. Need to start cutting parts to sizes....and see about thinning them down a bit....plank is 4/4 Ash.....

Might be something for me to do....to keep me busy for a week or two?

Hmmmm, seems a lot of the lumber Sellers used for this, is 1/2" thick......might have to resaw this 4/4 Ash a bit....need to cut the parts to size, and then to thicknesses needed. Might see how a wide plank can be thinned down....

Lid and base are 11/16" thick....we'll see.

Sellers uses "slips" to house the drawer bottom....I use the Stanley 45 and a straight cutter to plough a groove. I think I can do the dovetails he uses...we'll see...

    Hmmm, upon further review....

Will set up the tablesaw to 1/2" between the blade and the fence. Run all 4 edges through of each board, after they have been cross cut to length. Handsaw to cross cut. After the tablesaw is done, I have a 5-1/2ppi "Chrome Edge" Craftsman rip saw.....just back from being sharpened....that I can follow the tablesaw's kerf with.....will be a bit better than "burning" my way through with the bandsaw....

Then plane to smooth things out. I still have some 5mm plywood for a drawer bottom, and the bottom of the upper storage area. Will need to mill grooves for them, after the dovetails are done...I can align the grooves to be hidden, that way.

Need to get Mr. Gumption, and Mr. Motivation involved.....stage one will be wood prep....
    Stay tuned....

Ok...bench was a bit too crowded this morning.
    .Paul Sellers plans, crowded bench.JPG
needed a bit of elbow room. So, cleared the deck for action...even put a few things away
    Paul Sellers plans, wrong saw.JPG
Plans laid out, a few tools set out...that I had the wrong saw...used it anyway..as the Atkins 65 wasn't quite right...Disston D-8 worked better...set the plank in the bench vise. Edges were a bit to rough for a mitre guage on the tablesaw to hold squarely..so..
    Paul Sellers plans, start up.JPG
Needed to cut 2 for the front and back, and one to make the 2 ends....and hopefully enough for both the base, and the lid...
Paul Sellers plans, lid or base.JPG
usual luck...at least I have enough for either the base ( Sellers used a solid wood base) or, a lid. Sellers wants the two to be 11/16" thick...hmmm..
Paul Sellers plans, too thick, lidbase.JPG
Caliper reads 0.998"....may have to plane it down a bit?

Width will be fine...after I joint the edges
Paul Sellers plans, base, or lid.JPG
And, square the ends....base, or Lid? base is solid wood, because the drawers slides in and out on it.
    Paul Sellers plans, 2.JPG
Reset the tablesaw, and plug it in..been awhile....I jointed one edge of the other 3 parts....sit that edge against the fence. Distance is a bit wider than needed..
Paul Sellers plans, first rip cuts.JPG
To get most of the waste off. Reset the fence for a hair strong of final width....however, the front needs split, to make the drawer front...Took a few trips..
Which will be covered in the next episode....including getting these down to 1/2"
    Stay tuned..

    Ok... ripped for width..
Paul Sellers plans, ripped for width.JPG
So that were I to stand these up on edge, they'd all match...front panel has been split, too....and still match for width.
Now, these need to be thinned down to 1/2" thick....resaw was set up on the tablesaw...
    Paul Sellers plans, fence spacing.JPG
There is 9/16" between the fence and the blade, blade is raised up as far as can be...
    Paul Sellers plans, resaw work.JPG
Just missing the halfway point...two passes..
    Paul Sellers plans, 2 passes.JPG
Thicker one will get planed down to the 1/2" thickness required....might have a use for the other "half"..
Paul Sellers plans, ready for smooth plane.JPG
I lowered the saw blade, to make sawing the skinny parts safer....all set for the Stanley #3?
Thinking I can use a piece of Poplar....as a floor for the upper compartment...
    Paul Sellers plans, Poplar floor.JPG
And maybe some of the thinner offcuts as drawer sides?
Paul Sellers plans, saved for a drawer.JPG
    next episode? Dovetail the sides...
    Stay tuned..

Parts have been planed flat, and smooth, couple edges needed jointed. One end needed squared up. The 5" long ends have been mitresawn to that length.

Forgot the camera, this time around, sorry. I may run back down to the shop in a bit....may take the camera with me...

Almost ready to cut some dovetails...
    Paul Sellers plans, 2.JPG
As for the drawer....need more more parts made for it....then I can make a drawer...
    Paul Sellers plans, 3.JPG
    Maybe tomorrow? We'll see....

    Stay tuned...

Well, box came out of the clamps, and didn't fly apart...always a good sign
Plane and sanders to clean things up..
Paul Sellers plans, side 1 cleaned up.jpg
4 sides, top and bottom edges....

    Base needed a round-over done...
Paul Sellers plans, base rounded over, end.jpg
End grain first, both ends, then lay the base on a side..
Paul Sellers plans, edge gain round over.JPG
Do a test fit, to center the box on the base...
Paul Sellers plans, base test fit, tearouts.JPG
Found a couple tear outs....will fix them later....

Paul Sellers glued his base to the box....since I am following his plans....
Paul Sellers plans, base glued on.JPG
Guess I'll do the same....letting this sit a day....need to see about a lid, and a drawer...
