Such a wealth of knowledge Jim!
Based on what you have said I probably am on the heavier end of my shellac application on this last project. I used a spray can for the two platters I just finished more to even things out since the cans lack color. But otherwise for casing and trim I mix and spray my own shellac. Pretty sure I'm about right on the few quick layers, enough to give color and that's it.
Guess time will tell if I start seeing cracking...
