    pratt & lambert # 38

Does anyone know if Pratt & Lambert # 38 clear varnish is a wiping varnish? I have some and would like to use it in my table.
    thanks
If no one will ever see it, all the more reason to make it right

"Out of the can", P&L #38 is not a wiping varnish, but you can thin it appropriately to create a wipe-consistency product. Enjoy it while you have it, too...AFAIK, it's no longer on the market. (I could be wrong about that, but I believe there was a thread a while back that lamented it)

It looks like it's back. Who knows if it's the same formulation

I haven't used a varnish that couldn't be wiped on, not sure what the issue might be. Whether brushing, wiping, or spraying the finish needs to be thinned appropriately. If it starts too thin that is hard to reverse (I don't know much about spraying), but for brushing or wiping it can certainly be pretty thin.

That's great news and yes, I hope that it has a formula that sticks with what made it a great product for so long.
