    Sorting scraps...

And throwing out some parts that can't be used....

    Had a 1 x 6
    Resaw Project, bad spots.JPG
    With "issues"...
    Resaw Project, scrap.JPG
    Removed the issues. Which left...
    Resaw Project, good parts.JPG
Had other scraps laying around, some too wide, some too thick..
    Resaw Project, ripped for width.JPG
Ripped the wider ones down to where the tablesaw could reach more than 1/2 way across....reset the fence to about 1/2" from the blade

Not quite up to hand saw rips....ticker complains a bit...
    so...1/2" came out to 0.445"..
    Resaw Project, thick slices.JPG
And the "leftovers" came out to 0.290" or so...
    REsaw Project, thin sliced.JPG

Might be a start for a few boxes?
    Resaw Project, calipers.JPG
Just laid this down here, did not rezero...told me how thick the parts are.

Letting these sit for a day...or two....and then see about some frames for them to reside in...and make some dividers for the inside of a box ?
Stay tuned. So far, wood is just Ash....will see IF I need any Pine, or Poplar parts...

    Beats burning the scraps...

Intend to glue a few panels up, trying to match for best grain. Still have some 4/4 x 6 Ash on hand, I can rip down to build frames to hold the panels. Maybe a raised panel in a frame style of box? Last large one was Walnut & Cherry. Have some thin Poplar to use for the bottom....

Maybe Tongue & Groove joints to help glue the corners of the box? Might take a few weeks to build....letting the Single Brain Cell Sketch Up work out the details.

Good on you. I'm a little sick (ask my wife) about throwing away/burning scraps and off cuts, but it pays me to save and salvage. Happy holidays.

Can't wait to see where this one goes. I don't post much, but I really enjoy all your build threads and it is really interesting to watch how your projects tie one to another with material re-use and leftovers.

Well, planed a few scraps flat...
    Ash Box Project, start up.JPG
Cut them for width....then the mitersaw to cut for length..
Ash Box Project, Mitre box cut.JPG
Had 5 narrow strips, I got those glued up into a top..
Ash Box Project, clamps and cauls.JPG
2 long sides were 11" long, and a pair of ends at 6-1/2" long..
    Ash Box Project, ends.JPG
6mm mortise chisel to do some layout work..
Ash Box Project, finger lay out.JPG
Then a backsaw to make a bunch of cuts..
Ash Box Project, saw cuts done.JPG
    Then the waste chopped out..
    Ash Box Project, Fingers chopped.JPG
Transfer some marks to the end pieces...repeat...
    Ash Box Project, first corner...JPG
2-1/2 hours of shop time...I am worn out. Need to cut and chop 3 more sets of fingers...and then see about a groove for a plywood bottom...always tomorrow...

    Stay tuned

A little but more shop time tonight....got a few more of these done..
    Ash Box Project, end fingers.JPG
Hardest part, is to cut on the waste side of the lines, leaving as much of the line as I can...then chop halfway down, flip it over, and a couple chops to pop the waste out.
    Ash Box Project, dry fits.JPG
Next time in the shop, I can fine tune the fit. I need to set up a plane..
    Ash Box Project, Stanley 45.JPG
To plow a groove for the bottom panel....as for a marking knife...
    Ash Box Project, marking knife.JPG
May not be a Kiridashi...but the name does start with a "K"....

Maybe an hour in the shop, tonight...stay tuned..

Took the holidays off from the shop.....no need to try my luck after trying out my Christmas gift...
    Christmas present.JPG
As this doesn't blend too well, with sharp, pointy objects.....

Maybe tomorrow, after Brunch....I can plough a few grooves....
have a Happy one, people, and stay safe.

    And a Happy New Year....
    Shop time today....
    Ash Box Project, 1st groove.JPG
    4 grooves milled...
Ash Box Project, all grooves done.JPG
Plywood panel was sized to fit, then the edges were beveled for a better fit
Ash Box Project, bottm gets a bevel.JPG

Then a glue up was done
    Ash Box Project, glued up.JPG
Checked for square...waiting on the glue to dry. Had to sharpen the #12 cutter for the Stanley #45, before setting up to plough the grooves
Ash Box Project, Stanley 45 ready.JPG

Will see about flattening the lid, maybe tomorrow?
Ash Box Project, blank for a lid.JPG
    May take a while...
    Stay tuned...

Box is out of the clamps...clean up done..
    Ash Box Project, plane work.JPG
    Plane and sanders...
Ash Box Project, short sides cleaned.JPGAsh Box Project, long sides cleaned.JPG
Trimming the blank for a lid...
    Ash Box Project, lid started.JPG
Trimmed for length. There WAS a knot along one edge, ripped that off. Then cobbled a lift/handle..
    Ash Box Project, handle shaped.JPG
Had to resaw the higher spots down to 3/8" or so. To match the thinner spots...took a bit of scrubbing to to do the clean up...
    Ash Box Project, scrubbed.JPG
Then a #3 plane, and the sanders....
Ash Box Project, lid almost done.JPG
Almost done...was getting a bit worn out...stay tuned

Took the day off, today. May see IF it will open up on a Monday...if not...meh. Need to look through my boxes of hardware, and see if I have a couple hinges...if not, then off to Hobby Lobby to see what they have.

May work on the dividers, next...

Monday...shop is normally closed, so......road trip!
Drove up to Lima, OH today.....had a "budget" of $10 ( all I had in me pocket..) and was shopping for some hardware to use on this box....wasn't sure on the size of hinges..
    Hobby Lobby Dec., 3.JPG
So I picked the 2 smallest sets....same with handles...
    Hobby Lobby Dec., 2.JPG
Then I saw a few other "goodies"....
    Hobby Lobby Dec., 5.JPG
Like corner brackets, to protect the lid's corners...and..
    Hobby Lobby Dec., 6.JPG
Maybe some ball feet for the bottom of the box....then..
    Hobby Lobby Dec.,4.JPG
Maybe something to keep the lid closed....results?
    Hobby Lobby Dec,1.JPG
Had to borrow a little from the Boss.....$16.54 for all of this stuff.....Hobby Lobby is a very dangerous place to go....
May see about making the dividers, tomorrow, when the shop opens back up....have a pile of thin ( 0.290") Ash boards I could make use of
    REsaw Project, thin sliced.JPG
Might be enough there? Still have a stack of the 0.445" thick boards......maybe a second box?

    Stay tuned...
