    Walnut Bench

bench.jpg I made 2 walnut mission inspired benches to fit under the ends of the trestle table overhang. The family is getting bigger and the metal folding chairs were making this 103 year old farmhouse sad. I had the walnut and leather so this was a quick project. I used my little cnc router to make the mortises. I normally drill and chisel by hand. With an 1/8" bit they were square with flat bottoms. Plus with the straight cut on the reveal side of the legs I could use the long side of the rabbit type tenons to separate the mortises for strength. This was a first for me. I am still learning with many fruitful growth areas even at my older age!

Love the grain Gordon. Not sure I could do without a back rest though!

I wanted to make 4 chairs. SWAMBO wanted seating out of the way under the table since we only need seating for 12 twice a year. Happy wife, happy life.
